Ink jar

2025

Description

This wood object, crafted through woodturning—shaping wood on a rotating lathe—takes the form of a traditional Korean moon jar.
Rather than preserving the natural color of the wood, the surface was treated with pigmented oil and a carbonization technique, in which the wood is burned to accentuate its grain and create darkened tones.
Through the gradation and spreading effects produced by this method, the piece evokes the sensibility of an East Asian ink wash painting (sumukhwa).

Caution

Please avoid placing the wood object in areas with high humidity, as it is made from natural solid wood. For maintenance, gently wipe the surface with a dry cotton cloth or kitchen towel.

Because wood naturally expands and contracts according to its surrounding environment, fine cracks or slight warping may occur over time. These are natural characteristics of solid wood.

This is a 100% handmade piece, and minor scratches or marks may be present.
As the work has been crafted with thin walls, please handle it with care and avoid impact or exposure to heat.
