작가 소개

Tracing time through the rebirth of stone.

October Kim is an artist who reimagines the form and essence of rocks through a contemporary sculptural language. Her work begins with materials that originate from the weathering of stone—sand, clay, and coarse mineral particles. These materials are shaped by hand, exposed to air and flame, and ultimately return to a stone-like state, echoing a cycle of disintegration and rebirth.

Through this process, Kim retraces the dense, rugged materiality of stone and the long passage of time inscribed within it. Her sculptures distill this transformation into minimal, abstract forms that reveal both the strength and vulnerability embedded in natural processes.

The Miniature series, in particular, captures her worldview in small yet precise gestures: each piece becomes a compact vessel of accumulated time, quietly holding the memory of erosion, pressure, heat, and renewal.

Kim’s practice reflects a deep fascination with the way matter evolves. By allowing coarse particles to crack naturally and unglazed clay to shift in color, she embraces the raw qualities of her medium. These are not flaws but evidence of a material’s history—traces of time made visible.

Through her work, October Kim offers objects that feel ancient yet freshly formed, inviting viewers to contemplate the continuity between nature’s slow transformations and the sculptural moments where they briefly come to rest.
